The Unilab Fast Timer is a versatile, portable instrument for timing brief events with two ranges: 1 to 999.9ms and 1 to 9999µs. The inputs can be controlled by light gates, microphones or mechanical switches, connected via 4mm sockets. Two sockets provide 0 and 5V for connection to sensors if required.

The usual care is needed when using microphones to ensure that a repeatable sharp sound is obtained, e.g. use a toffee hammer and steel slab to produce a sharp noise when measuring the speed of sound.

  • Mass: 0.5kg
  • Dimensions: 170mm x 135mm x 45mm
  • Battery: 9V PP3 Battery required (not included)

Associated Products:

  • B8L86356 - Unilab Master Light Gate, with Leads
  • B8H27623 - Unilab Slave Light Gate

The Unilab Fast Timer is also available to purchase as a bundle with our 'g' by Freefall Apparatus (B8R06831).

  • A versatile and portable timing instrument.
  • Key Stage 3 Physics - Waves: Sound needs a medium to travel, the speed of sound in air, in water, in solids.
  • Key Stage 4 Physics - Motion and Forces: Estimate speeds encountered in everyday experience (e.g. Speed of Sound) and the magnitudes of everyday accelerations, including the acceleration in free fall.
  • 9V Battery is not included - the battery compartment is easily accessible by removing the side panels of the Fast Timer.
  • Compatible with Ceramic Microphones for Speed of Sound, and the Philip Harris g by free fall apparatus.
