Simple Respirometer for comparing the rates of absorption or evolution of gases by small organisms, during respiration. The apparatus consists of two stoppered boiling tubes connected by three-way taps to either limb of a graduated manometer.

One tube holds the organisms and has a syringe connector for altering the level of liquid in the manometer during setting up.

The other tube acts as a control thermobarometer. The Carbon Dioxide given off by the respiring organisms is absorbed by Potassium Hydroxide in the experimental chamber resulting in a change in the level of liquid in the manometer tube.

  • Complete with wire baskets for supporting organisms.
  • Capillary Tube Diameter - 0.8mm (approx.)

Potassium Hydroxide is sold separately: B8F78599

  • Easy to use and set up.
  • The wire baskets support and protect the organisms being studied.
  • Evolution of carbon dioxide by organisms or fermenting yeast,
  • Evolution of oxygen during photosynthesis (if used with Algae)
  • Suitable living organisms include Woodlice, Locusts, Maggots (Yeast can also be used)
  • Potassium Hydroxide can be purchased separately.
